cs61a or engr77?

Could cs61a satisfy as a Mechanical Engineering requirement or do I NEED to take engnr 77?

and can engr77 satisfy as a EECS requirement or do I NEED cs61a.

Thanks!

Well one of my roommates is doing an EECS major Mech Engineering minor and he had to take Engineering 77 even after taking CS61A. I also believe that Engineering 77 cannot be substituted for CS61A if you're an EECS major (or at least I've never heard of such a rule allowing this).

To get the definitive answer, you may have to ask an advisor. It may be possible to petition or something.

yeah, to my knowledge they don't overlap. basically e77 can be used for most engineering majors with the exceptionof eecs.

How do they compare in terms of difficulty? And for that matter, how is the rest of the CS 61 series too? I've heard E77 varies a lot depending on the professor.

From what I've heard, CS61A is more difficult, but also more interesting.

Yes..... definitely more "interesting"

yes e77 definitely varies a lot. my roommate took it in the fall and i took it in the spring and they seemed to be very different classes. the fall version seemed to be more focused on the programming while the spring version seemed to be more focused on the math/physics/stat side. topics were also very poorly introduced during the spring - the profs really didn't know how to teach the class that semester. a lot of the people that didn't have any programming experience were really lost during most of that semester.

How will E77 or CS 61A be with little or none prior programming experience? They recommend taking something like CS 3 before 61A if this is new to u, but is this really necessary?

NO! Do NOT take CS3! It's a waste of time. Unless you are completely incompetent, you do not need CS3.

hmm.. I did a search on previous threads.. and I can see you guys really think CS 3 is a waste of time... in that case, I'm thinkin of taking 61a, but right now its full and theres a waitlist of around 30.. however, takin a look at spring 06 and summer 06, I see that the number of people enrolled isnt even close to the limit... so I'm assuming/hoping that a lot of people end up droppin early in the semester? can anyone of you CS guys comment on this? thanks

wow ok.. now after checking again the waitlist is at 58..

Eudean... someone I knew my freshman year complained about how hard CS 3 is.
