How hard would taking CSE 143 and Phys 121 at the same time during winter quarter be if my other classes for that quarter were just easy filler classes?

My first quarter schedule is math 126, cse 142, and english 131.

I think that would be manageable. I have not taken Phys 121 since I’m taking it this fall, however I know it is an extremely difficult weed-out class so that will likely be your toughest class. I did not have very much trouble with CSE 143 but it is certainly known as a challenging course depending on your abilities. With easy filler classes I think you should be completely fine and that is a pretty normal schedule.

CSE 143 can be a very time consuming course.

It’s doable, but both classes are very time consuming and the average person would probably find at least one of them to be pretty challenging if not both. CSE 143 is also probably the most important prerequisite for CS/CE, so unless you’re really good I wouldn’t risk compromising the grades for two important prerequisites that both consume a lot of time. I would say to wait and see how you do in your first quarter. If you do really well in MATH 126 and CSE 142, then you’d probably do fine.
