I'll be taking cse 20 this fall. can someone tell me how it is? is it a hard class? how are the professors? any advice is welcome

I knew many people who took that class with Daniele Micciancio last year in spring and their experience wasn’t very good at all. First off, it was hard for people to follow his teachings because he has a thick european accent. The homework was extremely difficult and required many proves. The book that he assigns is an online book written by UCSD professors that mostly speak in jargon. People’s gpa dropped in that class because the quizzes are grade killers.

But hey, don’t take my words for it, read him up on ratemyprofessor.com here:

gahh realy. im so not excited… can anyone else help me out?

I took this class last quarter with Micciancio. It was the worst class I’ve taken so far.

I was fine with his accent since you could still pretty much understand what he was saying. That’s not really the problem though…the book for this course wasn’t very useful, and he tends to ramble on about other more complex topics. To be honest, I never found his lectures to be helpful.

The homework assignments were annoying, but attending discussion/TA office hours helped a lot. The quizzes were definite grade killers, but personally I thought the final was the worst. I went in with an A, came out with a B :(

I took it with Daniele Micciancio last spring too and it wasnt that bad. Ended up w/ an A.
Do the hw and make sure that you understand the materials well, not just memorizing. The quizzes and the midterm/ final are really tricky. You have to read them carefully… I always thought I got all of them right but turned out I didnt. He dropped the lowest quiz though. (or the lowest 2- i forgot) So its not that bad.

what would you guys suggest i take? i have enough credits from CCs to get me out of cse 12. so i was thinking of takign 3 classes this fall: cse 20, math 20c, and warren writing a. but hearing bad stories about this teacher is making me think twice. can someone advice/recommend a class schedule?
