CSE Advise

So I am a current high school senior who has been admitted to UW Seattle and intends on majoring in Computer Science. I understand that this major is very competitive at the U and I am honestly completely lost on where I should go to school. UW Seattle is my first choice but I also got Direct Admission into Computer Science at UW Bothell, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and Colorado School of Mines. Basically please help, is the risk at UW Seattle Worth it?

I am a current student trying to get into CSE. I can tell you that UW is unforgiving and really messes up your first year if you are trying to get into ultra-competitive majors like CSE. You won’t be partying through the weekend for sure, unlike other schools where don’t grades don’t matter that much. At UW, one 2.x grade will probably ruin all engineering/CS chances.

@halcyoncxd96 Thanks for the advise. I kinda figured that I would be killing my social life by trying to do CSE at UW but i didn’t think it was that bad… Anyway another question I would ask is how hard are classes in general compared to high school and if I had a 3.93 UW GPA in HS can I expect to get that same kind of GPA at UW

@Lelouch77 I’m an incoming freshman so I’m just speculating, but for your last question, I would probably say… probably not? Although we won’t know for sure. Keep in mind that in most high schools ~94% translates to an A which is 4.0 (it varies per school!), but I think it’s a bit different in colleges. I’ve heard some classes you need ~98% for a 4.0 and lower but still in the “A” range (if it were in high school) would actually give you 3.7 or maybe even lower.
