IMO you should get in with those numbers assuming your classes were mostly rigorous; however, its really hard to know for sure. CSE more of a crapshoot.
^^ I agree. It seems like a lot of 3.5’s were admitted but with fairly rigorous course loads. However, with that SAT score I don’t see you being denied outright from both.
The 1510 is excellent - they might be trying to figure out which college is the better fit for you. If you are female (your post suggests so) then you have an advantage for CSE (sorry guys!). You don’t say whether you are in-state or OOS but the former is going to be preferred, of course. (International might be even more competitive than OOS). However, two years ago a young man from OOS got into CSE with a 35 ACT and a 3.4 uw GPA (with an upward trend) and the 1510 is in that 34-35 ACT range for sure.
One thing that might be holding back your decision is your courseload. CSE requires a year each of Bio, chem and physics and most accepted to CSE tend to have a lot of AP’s and esp. a lot of math and science AP or equivalent. They don’t hold it against you if your school doesn’t offer it, but they want you to take the most rigorous courseload available w/o overwhelming yourself (because you have to have a decent GPA as well). Guessing you are fine in all of this but thought I’d mention it as you didn’t post those details. The fact is that UMN considers GPA/Class rank, test scores, and course load to be primary factors while EC’s are secondary (though certainly not trivial).
@JBStillFlying thanks for all the info omg. I am a female yes. Also OOS Cali. I took all those courses(bio chem physics) but my school restricts ap’s until junior year so I only took three. Ugh I just wish I knew what my decision was. I know my gpa is on the mediocre side but I hope my SAT makes up for it. Someone from my school got in with lower stats so my fingers are crossed!
