hey guys,
i have been admitted in the cse department in uci
do you’ll think it is possible to change my major to cs.
pls help
bump
It should be fairly easy to change your major. Especially because of the extensive course overlap between CSE and CS.
You’ll probably have to take just a couple of extra/different courses. Rest all the courses will be same. Hence, the university should not object.
A possible case in which you may not be allowed to change is if CS specific classes are full and there is no space.
If you want, you can always shoot an email to the university asking about the change. It is possible that they’ll just guide you through a simple form that you may fill up and it’s done
oh thank you ,
i just went to my admission and sent an message through the messenger asking to change my major.
is that all that is to be done or is there some complicated stuff to be done.
If you are an incoming Freshman, you will not be able to change your major until after Fall quarter. I suggest at Freshman orientation, you seek out the CS advisor and speak to them and find out the best way to transfer.

yea but anyways don’t you’ll think that first year nearly 90 of the syllabus will be the same
Yes, there is probably a huge overlap considering you will be taking pre-req and GE requirements and only a few CS/CSE classes. Check this link to compare the courses:

Oh thank you ,
So what do you think @Gumbymom do I have a chance to change my major after the first term. I mean good chance
I really cannot say since there is very little information about the chances of changing majors after 1 quarter. It would be best to contact your advisor during orientation so see if you can change after Fall quarter or if you have to finish more of the pre-req’s.
Whenever it may be but a change is possible right?
@Gumbymom
Yes, a change is possible especially if they is a large overlap in classes. My friends daughter was admitted to UCI last year and wanted to change her major from Biochem to Bio. She went to Freshman orientation and sat down with the Bio advisor along with the Biochem advisor and worked out her schedule so after 2 quarters with good grades, she could offically change her major. Again, there was a lot of overlap in the pre-req classes between the two majors. Good Luck.
Thanks a lot. I just wanted one last word of advice from you @Gumbymom if in future I want to work in companies like Apple , Google which major is much better cs or cse.
Both majors will be fine. Really focus on getting some internships to help with your job skills, that’s all employers want. Someone that do a great job for which they are hired.
