Which of these schools is the best school for BM Vocal Performance.
My daughter just auditioned at SDSU and really liked the faculty that were there and now has placed the school #1 for her. UCSB she auditioned in front of one person. She felt she did good. She asked them how many voice majors they were going to take, and they said 8-10. Not good odds.
That was her #1 school until she went to sdsu. SDSU pretty much takes all who pass audition.
CSF is our local school... she really wants to live away from home, but is this the better school?
CSLB same issue....
Please advise
Thank you

CSF and CSLB have much better reputations than either UCSB or SDSU.
UCSB in particular has not had the best reputation in recent years.

I don't agree; the UC's have a better reputation than the Cal States (perhaps Cal Poly is an exception), certainly nationally and in terms of getting into graduate schools; there are more tenured professors, nicer facilities, and the level of the students is higher -- just look at the stats. UCSB has an honors program and a strong music department.

We are discussing the reputation of the vocal music program, not the university in general.
General "stats" have very little ir nothing to do with what kind of singers the university is producing. Good example--Cal State Fullerton produced singers
like Deborah Voight and Rodney Gilfrey. Who of any note has come out of UCSB? UCSB has a good ethnomusicology department, but is not strong in
performance.

Calimom2--a good source for classical voice teacher and school recommendations is NFCS.NET
(the New Forum for Classical Singers).
