CSOM EA or RD?

I’m interested in applying to CSOM at BC but was wondering if I should apply EA or RD with the stats and ec’s that I have.

Background:
I’m a male from PA, probably can tell from the username already. I’m a rising senior and will be graduating this year. I come from a public school that sends 5-10 students to top ivies and LACs yearly.

Here are my stats:

GPA- Weighted- 4.82, Unweighted around the 3.8-4.0 zone not sure though.
Class rank: 6/383 top 2%

AP’s- not many offered until junior/senior yr. Only have taken English Comp and USH.
Will take Gov/Ec, Calc BC, Bio, Span, and English Lit this coming year. (All APs)

AP- 5’s on USH and English Comp
SAT: 2120 comp. 700-CR, 710 Math, 710 Writing.
SAT II: 780 Math II, 770 USH
ACT: 31- likely won’t submit not sure yet though.

EC’s:
-Student Council President this coming yr.
-DECA for 3 years (Officer this yr and next)
-FBLA officer this yr and next
-Interact 3 yrs. either vp or president next year
-Young Democrats club co-president

Volunteering:

Between 50 and 100 hours on projects with Habitat for Humanity, Breastcancer.org (helping with plan and run events that are fundraisers), Dragonfly Summer Camp and other groups our KICS club supports, projects with Catholic Leadership Exp.

Awards-

Golden Knight With Pride-11
Rotary Student of the Month-11
DECA Finalist at State Level, competed at Nationals twice
Nominated for National Youth Leadership Forum (2 people at my school get this)

Any input and any chances for either admission you would be able to provide me with would be appreciated. Thanks.

You certainly are a very strong candidate. Your GPA, class rank, and test scores will probably put you in the top 25% of the candidate pool, and your ECs (several top leadership positions, varsity sport, lots of community service) are excellent as well. If you can put together a strong essay in the next couple of months, you should apply EA.

Good luck!

you’ll get in. depends on if you need aid. ive heard some stories from the admission thread that they screw you over if you apply EA for aid

phillymo, don’t worry. BC’s aid package is based entirely on your family’s financial circumstances, so you’ll get the same one whether you apply EA or RD.

It is true that schools with ED programs sometimes stint on financial aid to their early applicants, since they know they have you anyway and you can’t compare aid offers from other schools. However, BC’s EA program is non-binding so that doesn’t apply.

ok thank you both for replying i appreciate it

With the exception of your chromosomes (more male apps to biz schools than female), you are an extremely strong candidate; definitely go EA.

btw: anyone can self-nominate for NYLF, so it’s not an award worth any value in admissions (even if your school limits the nominations).

Ok thanks, yea on the common app I didn’t even mention that nylf because I’m not attending any of them. Thanks for the info on that though i didn’t really look into the process of nomination or anything one of my teachers just nominated me.

Applying Early Action doesn’t offer any downside and offers the potential for consideration for the Presidential Schalrship, which is not only free tuition but awesome mentoring and summer opportunities. Only Early applicants are considered for this and 15 are given out every year.

^^…i know that. ive gone through the results thread. and a couple of kids who got in ea really wanted to go but screwed over with fa. some1 with same efc(very close) applied rd and got a lot of money.

does any1 know the stats of presidential scholarship?

Dear phillymo : The most interesting component of your profile is the complete balance that you have achieved across the three components of the SAT I exam. Your curriculum and averages, in addition to ranking, all fit with a strong early application into the BC community for the Class of 2014.

As someone asked about the presidential scholars, I would say that your SAT and ACT scores are short on that mark (1450/34 being benchmarks). That said, if BC is truly your passion and your top choice, by all means make an early application. Your credentials, provided they are supported by strong recommendations and essays, should land you a spot in the incoming class.

Your stats are slightly higher than my daughter’s were and she was accepted EA in to CSOM. I just moved her in to her dorm at BC 3 days ago and it is surreal to me. Go for it as it made a great Christmas present to receive her acceptance letter on December 17th. A sigh of relief and it was relaxing to wait for the results of other schools, knowing she was accepted to at least one great school early. Best of luck!
