Would be interested in learning the CSOM honors acceptance stats for Fall 08. D admitted with no honors. Received an acceptance from BC for the wrong school & when she called BC & asked them to check her app & make sure all was in order, was told no honors for her but she would receive 4 years of guaranteed housing - no mention of this in her letter. Can’t help feeling BC dropped the ball in her case. BC was her 1st choice but she’s no longer feeling the love. Disappointed.

Yeah, BC just doesn't treat prospective students very well, nor accepted ones, as far as I can tell. I was recently denied any financial aid whatsoever, and I got into arts & sciences in the honors program. My parents are nowhere near rich. BC hasn't sent me anything since my acceptance letter...meanwhile, Notre Dame has sent me a package on fin. aid, a Christmas card, and a letter from an alumni congratulating me and offering to help out if I had any questions. For one of the supposedly top schools in the country, BC is just plain obnoxious. I didn't get into CSOM Honors, but I did get into an honors program...

SAT: 770-640-710, 2120/2400, 1410/1600
GPA: 4.08, weighted, about 3.99 unweighted
EC: NHS, Catholic summer camp counselor for 2 years, one year as volunteer. More stuff, but I think this is what mainly made me look good.

I felt like I was treated very well by BC (perhaps because I attended the admitted eagle day and was welcomed there), though I agree they haven't done any of those personal things you mentioned about Notre Dame, AynRand. I guess it all depends if that's what you're looking for.

if youre looking for stats just look at the top thread with 25k views...kids put down everything including if they got into honors or not

I'm disappointed with BC if it hasn't stepped and be more courteous to NYmama's daughter and recruit AynRand more heavily. Admitted students usually receive a phone call from a current students to congratulate them and see if they have any question. I made hundreds of phone calls last year to admitted students and had written hundreds more postcards to prospective students. BC's goal has always been outreach outreach outreach to all students. I don't know if they are being overwhelmed by the surge in applications (which I doubt they haven't anticipated) or what happened. But I can assure you that BC is not being a jerk intentionally.

There seems to be a few confusions or uncertainty here so I will try to address it the best I can.

NYmama:
"Received an acceptance from BC for the wrong school"
- This has actually happened before. I don't know if your daughter were being admitted to A&S instead of CSON or LSOE. But since you indicated your daughter applied to CSOM, my best educated guess is that CSOM has seen a huge surge this year. CSOM is the hardest school to get into at BC. They often do not have enough spots to give to highly qualify students (which I'm guessing your students to be one of them) so instead they admit the students to a different school (100% of time it's Arts and Sciences). It's better than a waitlist, but still short of the school you wanted to get into.

"was told no honors for her but she would receive 4 years of guaranteed housing - no mention of this in her letter."
- Honors Program and 4-year housing aren't mutually inclusive things. All admitted HP students get four years of housing, but not all four-year of housing are HP student. BC has recently renovated several dorms increasing their sophomore and junior dorm space, therefore, it has been admitting more students with four-year housing. My guess with your daughter case is that Adcom wasn't sure how much available spaces will be readied so they couldn't promise your daughter four-year housing during the time of the admission. But since that time it must have get updated information on the availability of the dorms.

AynRand:
"I was recently denied any financial aid whatsoever, and I got into arts & sciences in the honors program."
- I'm disappointed in BC for not offering you any decent fin. aid, and not heavily recruit you more. I was hoping you would be able to attend. BC's financial aid is mostly generous for low-income students, but the middle-class really gets screwed. I hope if you could still sign up for an Admitted Eagle day you would do so (provided that transportation is possible). I hope you would give BC another chance, but without any major $$$ I can easily understand why you would not reconsider BC.

Thanks for your reply Reddune. We did receive a call from a BC student earlier this week.

D applied to and was accepted to CSOM, but was erroneously sent an acceptance to A&S. I work at a college & know they never switch an applicant to another school without asking & assumed BC followed the same system, so I knew immediately that there was an error. She has subsequently received her acceptance letter to CSOM, so now she has two - one for A&S & one for CSOM!

She has the full load of honors, EC's & leadership & her stats are higher than some in the A&S honors & seem in par with some in CSOM honors, but who knows how they select. I personally think she's comparable to some selected for the Presidential, but then again, I guess I'm biased! LOL

To aynrand=, It is quite apparent the BC is very generous to those whose parents who lower middle-low-very low income. I would guess that your parents likely are middle class income-wise and perhaps they have assets that you aren't aware of that puts them in another income bracket according to BC's financial aid calculations. It too bad for you, but I think there are a lot of prospective students in your situation, and either the parents have to come up with the money, or you have to get private scholarships or loans.

NYmama: I thought I should have been Honors as well and my parents did too since I was offered that at several other schools. But I wasn't at BC and you can tell your D that if she has a super gpa 1st semester she can get into the honors program as a freshman 2nd semester or sophomore year. Talk to the Dean, impress some profs, get a 3.7 or better and if it's important to her, she can do it. Remember the stats posted on CC are just a small sample of the accepted pool.
