I know this question has been asked before but I can't seem to find the thread.

We are currently in the midst of doing the CSS profile for an ED school and just supplying estimated figures. When I send the CSS profile to the other RD schools in January, do I need to do the CSS again so I can plug in the exact figures from our 2010 income tax returns?

You cannot amend the CSS Profile. You will need to submit the Profile that you are completing and then find out from the schools how to make the corrections (unless something has changed since the last time I did a Profile). Make sure you print out a copy of your Proflie when it’s completed so you can make copies. Most of the schools we dealt with had us hand write the corrections on the paper copy we made and then told us where to mail it.

Of course, you want your estimates to be as close as possible to the real numbers. Use your current year to date information on your most recent pay stubs and then just add in what you will earn and taxes in November and December.

This is what it says on the Profile student guide:

So, yes, if you add new schools for the RD round of applications, you can make changes as long as you haven’t previously submitted a Profile to those schools. Whether you need to do this or not probably depends on how accurate you feel your estimates were in the one sent for the ED application.

We did this when my son applied ED a few years ago. He was accepted to his ED school so we didn’t submit any more CSS Profiles to other schools, but we also didn’t send in corrections to the first one to the ED school because the estimates were very close to what our numbers ended up being at the end of the year.

Thank you both for your replies but now I’m even more confused.

Thumper, you said the CSS profile cannot be amended online.
But accdg to 'rentof 2, (or at least as far as I understood it) is that as long as the CSS has not been submitted to the RD schools, corrections can me made on the CSS profile. Is that correct?

I am sending the CSS to only one school in November so it will have the estimated figures.
If I am not accepted in my ED school, then I will have to submit the CSS to the RD schools in January. So since these schools were not in the original report, can I then update the info for them online?

Apologies if I’m being too airheaded about this but I don’t want to make mistakes!

Rent of quoted info from the College Board site. According to that you cannot change you ED submitted Profile BUT if you add colleges for the regular decision round you CAN update the info for those schools before you submit the Profile.

Carlene, like Thumper, our first CSS Profile was done at a time when you could not make changes online (for any reason). From what they say on their own website, it sounds as though you can do that now as long as you’re sending to a new school. Really, though, if you have any questions like this the easiest (and most reliable) thing to do is just to call the CSS Profile help desk and ask.
