This is terrific. I tried to fill out the CSS profile online with my mom, and within five minutes she practically has a nervous breakdown because she's not totally, absolutely, positively sure of the numbers and she can't do the application before she gets our taxes back! (We gave them to the accountant Feb. 3rd after my dad got his W2 form Feb. 1st)....My parents should be handling this responsibility in my opinion, and all attempts I've - encouraging them to read forms, handing them FAFSA and CSS applications, telling them it's due and to please hurry up - made dating back to last fall have been totally ignored. I'm extremely frustrated.

emilia~I feel badly for you...it sounds like you have done all that you could to help your parents get interested. Can you sit down with them and ask them why they are preventing you from getting out these forms? Maybe there is another reason that you aren't aware of. My son would probably say that we've been way too involved in his applications although we have only reviewed what he asked us to. I feel that it's our responsibility to complete the financial forms and he wouldn't have the information anyway. If they understand that this form can save them thousands of dollars this year and that rounding numbers is fine (you can edit these forms later) and final decsions on financial aide aren't made until completed tax forms have been sent to the schools...maybe they will understand. It seems that parents are either too involved or not at all...it doesn't make it easy for kids at this point in there lives. You have enough stress already...Best of luck...JM

thanks so much...i was working on my CSS but collegeboard just shuts off or something...i am going to try to call them tomorrow at school because they are closed now...
hey..just in case i am doing my CSS online tomorrow at school...what kind of question does it ask? so i can get the info ready and stuff so i can do it at school...
thanks so much..i really REALLY appreciate it!

hey...one question...should i call the rice fin. office explaining why i am late or anything??
hey..i feel you on this emilia...we will get through this...

wannabericeowlgirl: When I called the Rice financial/admissions office today, they didn't even ask for my name or any personal information. If you want to call and let them know, you could, but I don't think it's absolutely necessary because they probably anticipate late turning-ins of financial forms and such...their advice to you would probably be the same they gave to me: to get the forms in as soon as possible.

I started looking at the CSS profile today - it's a LOT of information. If you haven't registered already, you need some kind of credit or debit card because they charge you initially based on how many reports you need sent out. There's extensive questions on your assets, your parents' assets, etc...it's almost as if you need your tax return to do it...it just really confuses me.

But yeah, the collegeboard site (at least the CSS profile section) has been down for a good few hours now...I'm just hoping it comes back up soon.

i have notorn but it acts up....i dont download anything...i read pdfs though but they are from rice so yeah..
hey emili..just wondering..you know that post card thingy from rice...the stamped date on it...is it the date that they received the application or is it the date that the decision will be out..which date is on yours? my friend says his said "feb 10 2005" but mine says "jan 12 2005" i am pretty sure it is the date when they received it but why is his so different?? also, my post card thingy is a little messed up...why is it messed up? does rice not care about? well, i am not that great so yeah...oh gosh!!!!

The first was the one I had to stamp and fill out my address on with my application - it confirms that the application has been received and is being processed, and that I'll get an email with information relating to the online status check system. It was dated Nov. 1st, 2004....I sent in my application about ten days before that?

The second one is "Rice University of Admission Acknowledgement of Completed Application" and says that my app is being reviewed under Interim Decision and that I'll receive a decision by Feb. 10th, 2005. It's postmarked Jan. 6th, 2005.

Hope that answers your question...maybe your friend's application got mixed up in paperwork, if he sent it about the same time as you did?

owlgirl-spoke with fin aid ofc the end of Jan and guy there indicated that they had (at that time) recvd very few completed fin aid apps and that not receiving it until later would not negatively impact anything other than how quickly you would get your aid package. Assuming that what he said was accurate, not to worry!
That said, I suspect that it would be to your advantage to get it in quicker rather than later. Also, if you call them and ask to speak to an actual fin aid person rather than the gatekeeper on the phone, they would probably be more than happy to help you with any questions.
The forms caused me to go into brain freeze....not done yet.....

lol...thanks so much txmom..lol you are my cc mom :)

p.s. i dont have two postcards!! I turned in my application Jan 10...i got a postcard two days later [it is the application acknowledgment...admission, it is a little messed up...why?!?!] and it is now feb 8 and i have not gotten anything back from them...why?? i also did not received any emails from them...oh gosh! this is strange...first the 2nd missing postcard...then the messed up postcard...then no email thingy..oh my gosh!!!

If I turned in the CSS Profile and got "our analysis indicates that you do not qualify for need-based aid", should I even bother to rush getting the FAFSA done?
