I’m filling out the css profile right now and there are sooooo many errors it looks like. For example, one question says “Enter the income tax your parents paid for 2014 from their 2014 IRS Form 1040, line 55.” but that’s not the right line. Line 55 is the “total credits” line. It also says enter education lifetime credit from line 49 but that’s line 50. What should I do??? Wait till they are open and call or just answer the questions with the right answer from the line it should say?
They know about this. The tax line questions for the current Profile (2015-2016) are keyed to the 2013 tax forms, which have been updated for 2014 with some additional lines. This throws the line numbers off, as you have found. Until CSS fixes this, you will have to determine which line numbers from the 2013 tax forms have morphed on the 2014 forms. For instance, 2013 form 1040 line 55 is now 2014 form 1040 line 56, and 2013 form 1040 line 49 is now 2014 form 1040 line 50, as you have figured out.
They’ve known about this for several weeks now, at least. I don’t know why they haven’t fixed it yet.
You can find a copy of the 2013 Form 1040 on the IRS website here in case you don’t have a copy of your parents’ 2013 return -

Just type ‘1040’ into the search box and select the 2013 version that comes up (should be the second on on the page).
Thanks guys. As long as it won’t mess things up with the schools… I don’t think we should have to pay for it, though, if they aren’t providing the service the correct way. Anyway, thanks.
