The wording on the CSS profile made me think I could put as many schools as I wanted up front, but couldn’t add any later. That doesn’t sound right, so I wanted to ask here. If I have to put them all on at once and get it in by 11/15 for some of the schools, I am putting schools that my DS might apply to, but might not.
CSS is done separately for each school as the questions can be different (and there is a fee for each school).
FAFSA is the same for all schools and you can add schools later. After submitting you need to wait a few days for processing before removing the first school(s) and adding more. FAFSA is also free.
Wait! I did a CSS profile and it asked me to click on all the schools I wanted to send it to and then it asked me supplemental questions and listed what schools wanted those answers. Please tell me I will be able to submit the one I already did and it will go to all the schools on my list and that I don’t need to do individual profiles for each school!
It’s been a while since we’ve done CSS so it sounds like each school should get the supplemental questions they want and any you clicked should get your profile. In any case you can add CSS schools later.
Yes, the ones you completed with the additional questions answered…were submitted to,the schools you listed…and paid to have submissions to.
And yes…you can add additional schools at a later date…for a fee!
Got it! Thanks! Was in a panic. Didn’t want to click onto the last page when I wasn’t ready to submit yet, but now I see the last page is the $$$ page! So I have to pay to get aid?! Interesting concept!
Well, once I saw that they wanted $313 I figured out quickly how to go back and remove all the ‘maybe’ schools. Once I submitted, a button came up to add schools for next time so now I get it!
This is all making me unnecessarily crazy!
The Profile is not free. There is a fee to submit to the schools.
You are hoping for thousands of dollars in aid…right? The application fee is small compared to what you hope to get.
But yes…delete any college you aren’t sure you will be applying to. Just make sure that if you do apply…you don’t miss the deadlines for the schools you remove.
The College Board will keep taking your money as often as you want to send Profile to additional schools. The College Board would be acting contrary to one of their primary objectives if they limited the opportunity for you to send Profile to more schools (which conveniently also sends more money to the College Board).
