Do I need the documents(tax returns etc) as a softcopy to upload,or does it only ask for the values.?

What is “it”? You need to follow the directions and deadlines on your schools finaid websites. Procedures vary by school. And if you need further help here you need to provide more detail.

The CSS

while filling it out, do we have to like input the tax values and all, or do we have to upload our financial statements over there?!

What is “over there”? CSS asks for may different numbers; some are taken directly from the applicable lines on the tax forms. If a school wants additional documentation, like copies of tax forms, they will tell you. Look at each school’s financial aid web page to see what the requirements are. They vary among schools.

I think you will find that CSS documents are handled through IDOC. Read the instructions.

Not all schools use IDOC. Some have other ways of submitting 2014 tax documents in February. Again, the info will be on the finaid webpages. But if the OP is applying ED/EA now it’s likely 2013 tax docs may be required. Again, the info to be found on the school finaid web pages.

The online CSS Profile form itself has no mechanism for submitting any tax forms.

For a few schools my son has applied to, they make it clear on the FA page that they will want signed tax forms “at some point”.

If you don’t end up going there, I don’t think most colleges want your tax forms.
