Hey Guys, Would be great if you could help me out...
I have applied for Admission Term Fall 2014. I am a student from India. My colleges are (GTech, UPenn, UColumbia, Cornell, MIT). I was filling out the CSS profile and wanted to know if i could get a fee waiver. I need it. Turns out it's more expensive than i thought. If they give waivers, how should i go about it...????

Thnx a ton. Please HELP.

Contact each school you’re applying to by email, explain that paying the CSS Profile fee is a financial hardship, and ask if they’d be willing to provide you with a fee waiver code. Many schools make them available to students who need them. Each code is good for that school only, so you need to ask each school. Good luck!

Can colleges provide waivers for CSS? I thought colleges can only provide waivers for their own app fees.

CSS Profile doesn’t give waivers to int’l students.

So, shall i try writing to the colleges…??? or would that be in vain…

Yes, colleges can provide fee waiver codes for the CSS profile, and many of them make those codes specifically available for international students!

jjkiller911, you should do exactly what I said: contact each college by email, explain that paying the CSS Profile fee is a financial hardship, and ask if they’d be willing to provide you with a fee waiver code. I can’t guarantee you success with each college you contact, but it’s certainly worth asking!

well, worth a try…thanx, will tell if a success…Thanx once again…

About the CSS Profile fee waiver codes . . .

The colleges have to purchase them from College Board (and they’re not cheap!), but, once purchased, they can give them to whomever they please - international students or any other student who doesn’t qualify for the CSS Profile automatic fee waiver. It’s up to the college to decide.

I know at least one college that provides them ONLY to international students, and another that doesn’t purchase them or make them available at all. So, especially for an international student, it’s definitely worth asking!

Op should also keep in mind that all of the schools s/he has mentioned are not need blind to international students so the ability to pay will be a factor in admissions.

@dodgersmom Thanx a lot for the advice. I asked cornell and they provided me with a waiver code…\m/ ^:)^

@mom2collegekids…they do provide waivers to international students…

Looks like some colleges do by buying them. But, Collegeboard does not provide waivers to int’ls.

Good luck.

You’re more than welcome, jjkiller911 - glad it worked out! Hope you have similar success with the others. :)

Thank you…! Will tell where I get through…Thanx once again…@dodgersmom…
