So my deadline for CSS for one of the schools I applied to is tonight, but my parents have not yet done their taxes. It asks for 2015 tax information, is it okay to do 2014?
Use estimates for 2015. Is there a reason that your parents are waiting on doing their 2015 taxes?
Use the best possible estimates for the 2015 tax year. Your family should have end of year pay stubs which give them some of the information needed. You can use your 2014 return as a guide…adjusting up or down depending on your income.
You will file using a “will file” status. The thing is, you will not be able to update your Profile online. This is not a problem…but you will need to contact the schools to find out how they want this info updated.
Some will just want you to complete your FAFSA and link to the IRS Data Retrieval Tool.
Others participate in IDOC and you will need to follow that process if the do.
Others will ask you to send a printed copy…with corrections written in, although I think this is less common now,that the IRS DRT is being used.
Anyway…contact your schools. But get those taxes done ASAP. This is not the year to,wait until April to,do your taxes!
