Let’s say I am applying to 10 college including one school for ED.
So, I select all of the 10 colleges to send my CSS profile. Weeks later, I get into my ED school.
Here’s a question, what do I do with the 9 schools that I already paid and sent my CSS profiles to? And, just in case I get into my ED school, can I select only my ED school to send my CSS profile to and then if I don’t get in, can I add schools then?
Nothing.
You can always ask CSS to send Profile to additional schools. Just make sure that you meet all deadlines that each school has.
@BelknapPoint Is there any way for me to confirm your information? Not that I don’t trust you or anything but I just want to make sure that it’s okay for me to request to send the profile to additional schools:)
What do you want to confirm?
You can apply to your ED school…and submit the Profile to ONLY that school. Then if you don’t get accepted, you can always add additional schools for submission (with a fee charge per school) at a later date.
If you submit your Profile to NINE schools at the onset…and one is your ED school…and you get accepted and decide to attend…you do NOTHING about the other 8 Profile submissions. If you haven’t actually submitted admission applications, these colleges will do NOTHING with your Profile (or FAFSA, for that matter).
If you want to confirm this info…call the College Board.
The College Scholarship Service (CSS) will be very happy to take your money and send a completed Profile to as many colleges that require Profile that you want to send it to. As far as CSS is concerned, the more the better.
But what @BelknapPoint also pointed out, watch the due dates for financial aid applications for the schools you have ‘pending’ for your ED results. The application for admissions might not be due until Jan 1, but the FA application might be due on Nov 15. If so, you don’t really have a choice but to send the CSS to that school before your ED results are received.
The others are right. It’s not a one time shot. Fill it out and send it to ED. Don’t get in, log back in and send it to other colleges. I just did this in January, not for ED but for when my son decided to throw in another profile school last minute.
@thumper1 @BelknapPoint @twoinanddone @turtletime Thank you everyone for taking your time to answer my question! I actually called the college board just to “confirm” and ask other questions. Turns out that they are pretty nice at answering questions!
Anyway, there is one question that I have regarding the CSS profile. I heard that there’s a section that asks for the estimated house value and some say to use federal housing index calculator. I looked at zestimate from Zillow and the federal one, and it looks like the federal housing index calculator gives a lower estimate. Do you think it would “legal” to submit the lower estimate?
You need to use a “reasonable” estimate of the current property value. In my opinion, the federal housing index calculator is not a reasonable method to provide an accurate estimate of current value. From what I can tell, it only uses three pieces of data: the purchase price, the date of purchase, and the state.
