If a child goes to a private high school, the CSS asks how much in financial aid the student received, and how much the parents paid. The tuition not covered by aid was paid both by us and grandparents. Can I just put the amount my husband and I actually paid, or is the number supposed to include that paid by grandparents? (If it’s the latter, it’s not a true reflection of what we can afford, so I’m thinking that’s not correct, but I want to be sure.)
I haven’t completed Profile in a while and the current version is not available without creating a College Board account and logging in. So… does Profile still have a question that asks about bills paid or gifts received for the benefit of the student (similar to FAFSA question 44.i.)? If so, that’s where I would report the tuition paid by the grandparents, and just report your (parents) part in the question you are asking about.
This was the first real question it asked, and I got flummoxed, so I didn’t go any farther. But your answer makes sense! If the profile still asks that question, that’s where I’ll report the tuition help. Thanks for responding!
There is also a section in the css profile to explain any special circumstances so you could list it there.
