So I fill out the FAFSA on Jan 1st, but do I need to wait till I get accepted into a school that uses the CSS to complete the CSS, or can I just fill it out and choose the school/program later?

Yes.
But many schools require you to submit them before you are accepted so that at the time you receive the acceptance letter you also receive your FA award. Check with each school FA website to see the deadline.

It would be easier to fill both CSS profile and FAFSA at the same time if time schedule allows. otherwise, you need to recalculate the current asset balance again for each.

Fill out the Profile and submit it to all of the schools you applied to that require it. Do this when you do your FAFSA.

So I applied to, like, 20 private schools. I am supposed to complete CSS and send it to all of them, whether or not I get in?
Also, thank you guys for the help. I appreciate it.

Yes. You can’t wait U til you are accepted…you need to have your financial aid award to make a matriculation decision by May 1. If you wait until mid April…which is when many acceptances will arrive, you will NOT have a financial aid package by April 30.

And DO look at your college websites. Many will have financial aid application deadlones that are not all that far from now. Adhere to those deadlines as well.

K, Thanks

In another thread, you mention that both of your parents are physicians. are you wasting time submitting these forms? Would you even qualify for aid?
Have your parents run the NPCs on these schools’ websites. Likely, if they both have careers as physicians, you’re not going to qualify for any aid.
mom2collegekids: Physicians do not make the money they used to so I don’t think OP should b discouraged from applying. It can’t hurt.
