CSS Profile Down!?!

I understand. I’ll just fill out the basic stuff about colleges to send to and then it’s hands off. :)

Thanks.

Thanks 'rentof2! You’re extremely helpful (especially since all us seniors are going crazy right before deadlines!)

I really regret not doing these forms earlier.
:(

EDIT: Also…what would happen if the CSS PROFILE is down tomorrow too!!! Oh dear…

yosup, you’re aware that the info you posted from UM’s site is for last year, right? Check this year’s deadlines.

4/30 sounds like a due date for a continuing student, not a prospective student.

Another question… the CSS asks for like scholarships and tuition fees for any siblings in college. What’s the relevance to scholarships that my sibling might have gotten? (Understandably, I know that it pertains to the amount of money that my parents paid for his tuition this year, but still) Can I just put 0?

My brother goes to CUNY Hunter, so the tuition isn’t that ginormous to begin with. He got around…5k in scholarship money and I think my parents paid around 1k this year (or however much the remaining tuition was).

Any words of wisdom?

Well, I stand corrected. I checked UM’s website and it does indeed say 4/30 for incoming freshmen.

yosup: Let this thread be a lesson to you. Get your applications (FAFSA and PROFILE) submitted early!

yosup : i didn’t believe it but I stand corrected. An April 30th deadline for Univ of Michigan. my Apologies. However:
March 1: State FAFSA Deadline and Suggested Filing Date. For consideration for the Michigan Competitive Scholarship (MCS) and any other state aid programs, your FAFSA report must be received from the federal processor by this date (allow three to four weeks for processing). Submitting your FAFSA and PROFILE applications by this date will also ensure that you are considered for need-based scholarships and that you will receive an aid offer by the May 1 enrollment deposit deadline.

I managed to add two colleges to my CSS, but the selection seems to be VERY limited. It’s like they’ve dropped thousands of colleges from their database. Using the lookup by state shows very few colleges.
Meh, we expect no need based aid anyway. Just going through the motions. Maybe I’ll try back in a half hour, maybe not.
(8^P

Not that many schools even use the CSS Profile. The number that does is in the hundreds, not the thousands. You may be confusing the Profile with the FAFSA. Almost all school accept/require the FAFSA for financial aid applicants.

Could be. I managed to add one more though.
Good night all.

Unlike late yesterday afternoon and evening, the site is working fine now, at least this early morning.

Yup - Collegeboard TOLD everyone in their e-mails that this could/would happen. Just like kids who don’t apply until the last day.

I’m CONSTANTLY telling my daughter that one NEVER puts off until tomorrow…what they can do today. You never know what will arise, new questions come up, more forms have to be done, technology, glitches, etc.

I’m guessing there will be some hair pulled out tonight. My accountant told me he’d have my taxes for me by today. NO WAY was I going to wait until today, so I did FAFSA with estimates last week, and completed CSS with estimates and held off just in CASE he got them done early (since it’s harder to correct). I pushed submit on
Friday knowing the website would get inundated over the weekend.

Know that I’ve heard colleges who have this problem (verified outages) have allowed an extra day for that. Maybe college board will/does too…if it’s down tonight.

Question:

On the CSS, it says: Enter the amount your parents think they will be able to pay for your 2010-11 college expenses.

Can’t one just put “0” as the amount, even if your parents could pay more?

EDIT:

Also, for this question: Enter the name of the educational institution (school, college, or university) this person will attend during the 2010-11 academic year.

My B is telling me to put Cornell University (because he plans to transfer and because this will mean that my parents will pay more for his tuition). However, I’m not sure if that’s technically ethical, because he hasn’t transferred yet. Can I still put it anyway?

Thanks!

You can put zero, but if a school is NOT need blind (as Washington University St. Louis) they can consider this in their admission decision, although I’m not sure if the admission department even sees this form. In any case, it won’t effect your EFC (expected family contribution).

You could put Cornell, or just put Not Yet Determined.

Thanks AVHS Dad!

I decided to put Cornell, because it’s pretty definite. For incurring expenses for the 2010-2011 academic year, I put 56,000. I’m still deciding how much I should put for the line after that asks how much will your parents pay for this 2010-2011 academic year.

I’m not sure if I should put 0 or put a number like…18,000. Any suggestions?

P.S: If it helps, my FAFSA EFC came out to be 11,000.

THANKS!

Murder…there is another recent entire thread on this “what will they pay/can they afford” question.
