CSS Profile for aid as an older student

Some colleges I’m applying to say that for aid from their University (not federal or state aid like with FAFSA) I’ll need to fill out the CSS profile.

I’m an older student and they’re asking a lot of questions about my parents that I don’t understand the relevance of. It’ll be a pain to collect that information too. I completed FASFA as an independent and skipped the section about my parents, I file my taxes separately, etc. Is there a way to skip questions about all my parents assets and whatnot on the CSS profile?

Thanks fellas

If you are over 24 you may not have to supply parental info on the CSS either. Did you contact the college?

From the college board:
Financial aid eligibility is, in part, determined by a student’s dependency status. Independent students are treated differently from students who are dependent on their parents. However, some schools and programs require parental information on the PROFILE even if the student is considered independent based on the criteria above.

Thank you, I did find out that they consider everyone a dependent for the purposes of CSSaid. Ridiculous if you ask me but what can you do

Well, you’re asking them for their money, not government funds, so they can impose whatever requirements they like. And even if you’re over 24, if your father is Donald Trump, they may decide you have resources that make additional aid unnecessary. Probably not the case for you, but they have no way of knowing that if they don’t ask.
