Kind of what it says: do I list my parents' gross wages for income, before all of the deductions and taxes, or net, after?

Thanks in advance!

You answer the question asked.

If it asks for Line 7 of the tax return, that is taxable gross income (it will not have 401k, insurances, or other allowable pre tax money, but you may have to re-add it on a later line). If it asks for AGI, that is found at the bottom of the first page (line 37?). Taxable income? (not often asked for) On the second page of the 1040.

If it’s asking for income it would be gross. If they ask for a specific line from the 1040 use that line.

Actually, I’m an international and we don’t even do tax returns in my country. The line says “Enter the income parent 1 earned or expects to earn from work during his or her country’s most recent tax year.” It doesn’t really specify whether it’s gross or net (there is a short explanation in “help”, but it’s also based on tax return forms which is why I still don’t get it).

It’s gross income; it will ask you for the taxes payed later :)

Thanks! I thought it was gross, but I didn’t want to risk it because the difference is really big. :)

IF you don’t have tax returns then do you have taxes? IF it is business income and there are expenses then you need to use the net income number. If it is a wage and you have taxes taken out but no tax return is filed then use gross.
