My parents are married, although my mother and I moved to another country 6 years ago. On my CSS Profile I listed them down as married. When asked to provide the country of residence for the parents I was only shown one drop down box. Should I just put my current country of residence with my mom or should I list them as separated so that I can include the country my father currently lives in? Thanks!
Are your parents married, or separated. Six years is a long time to live in different countries.
We still see my dad on holidays, though. They also file their taxes as joint so I’m supposing I have to put them down as married. I’m just confused as to what happens now that there’s only one drop down box; I can’t put me and my mom’s current country as their country of residence when one parent doesn’t live here, right? Is this along with them living apart for a long time grounds enough for filing them as separated? Thanks again for your time!
Separated is for people who no longer have lives in common. Lots of families have parents in two different cities/states/countries because of work or personal reasons.
Admissions and financial aid offices are familiar with this kind of situation. For now, use the address where you and your mom live. Then let each of the places on your list know that your parents reside in two different countries, and ask the admissions and financial aid offices if you need to send additional information. Don’t be surprised if each place asks for something different.
Thank you !!
