So, I sent my non-custodial parent profile to my father. He called and said that he had completed it and paid $25 at the end. I didn't think much of it.
But I went to submit my profile and it asked me for $25.
I have two problems with this:
1. Considering that my custodial parent's gross income is listed as $0, you'd think I'd qualify for the waiver.
2. Why are we paying twice? it doesn't seem correct that divorced parents pay $50 and married parents pay $25.

So here are my questions:

Do I have to actually do something to get a fee waiver?

Does it ask for payment at the end of the non-custodial parent profile? (maybe my father was mistaken or I misheard him...)

What should I do? I need to submit my profile!

Emily - how did your non-custodial parent access the CSS? My experience has been that the custodial parent has to file first and then information is sent from College Board to the non-custodial parent on how to access the Non-custodial profile online (provides passwords etc). are you sure your non-custodial filed correctly? I would double check that he filed a NON-custodial profile.

Yes I believe both parents pay in a divorced situation.

There is a link on the college board for the Non-custodial parent to file his/her information.

Op has to give NCP their CSS Id number. The ncp signs in enter their child’s CSS ID and the Noncustodial PROFILE password that was assigned to you as part of your child’s CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE process. they will automatically be asked to change the password in order to prevent the child and the custodial parent from accessing the NCP information. The NCP pays a $25 flat fee (they do not pay for additional schools).

Regarding fee waiver, once OP finishes filling out the information on the profile and is ready to submit, the profile will let her know automatically if she is eligible for a waiver and will grant it right there on the spot. the fee waiver will only cover 6 schools. Otherwise they will be charged to file the profile and must be ready to pay the fee in order to submit the profile.
