our S15 moved out in July. we will claim him on taxes for 2019; but as we fill out the CSS profile, does he get to be included in dependents , or no? he’s not dependent right now. (yay!) just checking; thanks for any thoughts on this.
I think these forms are asking for who will be a dependent or family member during the academic year they are for. If you are completing a Profile for 2020-2021, your first kid won’t be a dependent or family member during that time…so I am guessing no…he doesn’t count.
But hoping someone else will chime in.
Following.
Also - another CSS question.
On the FAFSA; you get a student aid report; and it tells you your EFC. Does the CSS profile offer something like that? Should we be looking for a “report” and number?
or does each college take it and use it on their own?
AND - now that it’s filled out; can we import the info to use on college NPCs? Or do we start all over inputting with NPCs? thanks!
For the CSS, there is not a report or number. Each college calculates the award based on all the information submitted and their particular formula. Some colleges will ask for extra documents to be submitted through IDOC, some will not.
Here is the definition of those who can be included in your household size: https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/1920/help/student-household-size.
No.
This is for the 2019-2020 FAFSA:
So…if you are completing a 2020-2021 form, one would think the dates would be “between July 1, 2020 and June 30, 2021”.
Right @kelsmom
So…using that…your kid who graduated college and is now on his own as of June 2019 would not be listed on the FAFSA for 2020-2021.
