Hoping someone can help me on this one...filling out the CSS Profile.

Does the following statement mean we cannot put in the high school (not college) tuition for my senior D that we paid in 2013...the one that is applying? Shis is included in PH-100. This is a significant amount, so I want to make sure I get this one right.

"Enter the amount of money that your parents paid or expect to pay in 2013 for elementary, junior high, and high school tuition for family members who were included in PH-100. (Tuition does not include room, board, books, supplies, transportation, etc.) Do not include tuition paid by scholarships. Also, do not include any tuition paid for the student named on this application or any tuition paid for siblings in preschool or college."

Also, do not include any tuition paid for the student named on this application

Sounds like you don’t include this student’s tuition …maybe because you won’t be paying that during the college years?

It sounds like you cannot put the senior daughter’s tuition on the form. You won’t be paying the tuition to attend private high school when she attends college. This question is for families who will have siblings with private school tuition while the college student is in college. You list those kiddos.

Thanks mom2collegekids! That’s what I was thinking but I wasn’t sure. Oh well!

Yes, some colleges do take into account private school tuition being paid for siblings. They don’t want the info for other college student siblings as that is taken into account elsewhere. The k-12 private tuition is not taken into account the way it works when you have more than one kid in college at the same time, but some schools do give it some financial consideration. The catholic schools tend to do this, I know.

…I think I see why they leave the senior off now. Next page on student data there is a question that asks how much did your parents pay for your '13-'14 education. That’s where the tuition goes.

Thank you so much for the quick replies…this application is taking forever to fill out!!!

Why they mention private schools. I am paying tution for my childrens in a public school. Not much but still paying. So I did put that amount for the siblings who is a freshman at a public school

^^
Your child’s Illinois public school charges tuition? Tuition? or something else?

I dont know its Tuition or Registration Fees, but every Year I write a check for ~$300 for each of my Children, otherwise they wont be allowed to attend the school, plus the $$ I spend on their other misc items like Books, Stationary and clubs…

Then I pay property Tax (~8K), from which almost 40% goes to public Schools…
All that money comes out of my Gross Earnings and need to be reflected in CSS…

Welcome to State of Illinois who has the highest % of elected official serving Jail time as compare to other 51 States…

Actually…when my kids completed the Profile, it specifically stated NOT to put any amount in for students attending a public a school. You are NOT paying tuition…other costs…yes…but NOT tuition.

Welcome to State of Illinois who has the highest % of elected official serving Jail time as compare to other 51 States…

There are only 50 states.

I don’t think you can count your property taxes on CSS as some kind of “school cost”.

I’m surprised at the $300 per child for a public. They must have some waiver for the Free Lunch kids. and you have to buy textbooks? Or do you mean paperbacks for lit class?

Is it possible that the $300 is a fee of some sort? That is VERY different than tuition.

$300 is for Registration and some sort of fees but not a waiver for Free Lunches, My children never applied for Free Lunch since its only for families with lower income and I dont get into that category. Yes I did put that 300 $$ amount into CSS profile. I did not put property tax I know that… buying lit books and supplies are on top of 300 but i never put those either.

sorry we have 50 States, some time I think puerto rico and virgin islands as the 2 states but they voted against in 2006…
