CSS Profile Question

What does "your parent's portion of 2011 gross receipts for this business" mean? Is it a percentage or dollar figure? Also... with my daughter applying EA this is difficult for me to do with a business. Whatever I estimate is not going to be correct. I don't understand the purpose in submitting this early when nothing can be finalized until tax returns are completed.

Thanks for any help.

^I agree. I asked our accountant what she would charge to come up with a reasonable estimate of what our income will be from the business this year. I didn’t care for her answer.

H is sole owner of his business, so we didn’t have to answer this question, but they’re looking for a dollar figure, not a percentage, I assume. You can call to ask.

S applied ED to his college, so we didn’t have the actual figures when we filed. We had to send the changes directly to the college as soon as we had the real numbers. This is standard, even for not applying ED because CSS is due before tax returns are for new applicants. You have to give your estimate and then submit returns once filed and any changed answers directly to college(s) as I recall.

FYI - When you submit the real numbers, if they vary much, your FA award can change (for the good or the bad).
