So on the CSS Profile, one of the questions asks how much the parents think they can play.

Why would we not want to put down "0" for this number, and if we did, what would the school do? If they're need-blind in admissions, would that get the admission offer rescinded, or is that far-fetched?

Thanks.

If the school is need blind, the admissions office will not know what is on your Profile.

If it were me (and I did this when my kids were in college), I put what I realistically thought I could pay each year. You can really put any number you want. The school is going to compute what THEY think you can pay…regardless of what you SAY you want to pay.

Here is an example, Id put down what they can pay by dividing your assets by four less any other kids…If you put zero and have 125k in a 529 that looks bad. If your in a pile of kids that have enough to pay for CSS college and equal students in regards to stats (and all the aid is gone) i would throw your file into the rejected pile. It wouldn’t rescind an offer of acceptance, just be used to make the initial decision.

Just be realistic.
