My father still hasn't filled out the CSS profile, even though it was supposed to be due November 8. He keeps saying he'll do it but I don't know if he ever will. What do I do? When will it have to be in before it affects my decision? I'm so upset. We really need financial aid and he doesn't seem to care.

Tough situation – there is no way to make him do it. However… U of Chicago is need blind, so they make admissions decisions separate from financial aid. And because you have applied EA (not ED), you do not have to decide until May. So… honestly, I can’t see how this will impact your acceptance process. Maybe someone else has a different perspective, though.

Alright:) that makes sense! But when will it be too late for them to consider the CSS profile? Does anyone know?

About a week before decision.

You may get an email notification saying you are missing CSS and 2012 Tax return by that time.

Uchicago is need blind indeed. If they do not have CSS and Tax return they cannot estimate your FA even you are accepted. So you will miss the opportunity of knowing your FA in December. I think you will still have plenty of time of knowing that before May 1st next year.

Filling the CSS is not that hard. You do not need to be very accurate - you need to know the balk park. The most important part is the income. Other than that you can estime the rest. The FA decision is not final. Next year the Uchicago will have your 2013 Tax return and updated financial information to make a final decision.

Maybe a motivation for you and your father is to know FA in December than next year. Actually you can help your father here - to get him started. You can open a CSS account yourself. I remember you may need your College Board account if you have already taken SATs.

So open an account yourself and ask him to fill some financial information you are not authorized. It should do. I have spent a couple of hours to fill CSS before - not very time consuming at all. You only need to estimate most of items roughly if you cannot find all accurate information this time. You will have another chance to finalize it.

Good luck!

Ask him if you can help him there like opening the account. If he agrees then you guys can start soon. Otherwise he may have some concerns you do not know and he will get it started in his pace which should be fine too.

Either way no worries.

Thank you so much @eddi137! I relayed to him this information (not saying it was from an online forum of course). It looks like it might have helped! Apparently the issue was that he thought he had to be perfectly accurate on all information, some of which he could not find. So your response that you only need to be in the ball park was very helpful! Anyway, thank you again. I’m so relieved.
