Hi guys, my dad was filling out the CSS for an early decision deadline and told me that he doesn't think we have a chance of getting any financial aid. My mom doesn't work and my dad doesn't have a crazy salary, but we have a lot of assets and he doesn't want to bother with it.

My dad doesn't have any experience with this, but he doesn't think our EFC will be anywhere near the 50,000 cutoff. Is it still worth applying, and if we don't, how will that impact admissions if anything at all?

For the Profile I think assets are only assessed at 5.6% for parents. Does that help?

That is for the FAFSA schools…the 5.6% of assets for parents. For Profile schools there are many more variables in the formula.

Are your parents able and willing to pay for the full cost of you attending your colleges? You should also know that there are some schools that will not allow you to apply for institutional aid after your freshman year if you did NOT apply for it as an incoming freshman.

You know…you might get some aid depending on the school(s) and their financial aid programs.

If you would benefit by receiving some aid, and need it, then fill out the Profile…and submit. The school will decide if you qualify for their aid…or not.

Thanks for the correction Thumper.
