What is the point of this

Enter the total amount you expect to earn in wages, salaries, tips, etc. during the 2009-2010 school year. (9 months)

and the one for the summer.

I don't know if I'll work this summer, and my parents don't want me to work in college so I focus mainly on school, but I don't know if I should at least put some money or what..

What should I do?

Also it asks what I expect to receive from outside scholarships..How the hell am I supposed to know? I'm still applying to them.

Do I put only the ones I know for absolute certain? What about LA TOPS, it only works for Tulane, and not the other schools. Do I put it? It is a randomized amount depending on the school also..so I don't know what to do this is so confusing.

If you dont know if youll work put 0 same for scholarships

Alright thanks. I quit it for now, I'll wait till my mom gets home. This thing is so stupid lol. Why not just use the FAFSA.

I can understand your parents not wanting you to work while you're in school, but it's likely (nearly certain) in any financial aid package you receive that there will an expectation that you earn money during the summer and also work part-time during the school year. It won't matter that your parents don't want you to work.

Of course just because there will be a work component in your aid award, it doesn't mean you have to work, but you'll have to figure out where else that portion of your total award budget will come from.

For now, on the CSS Profile you can just put 0 since you don't know and can't predict an amount. Just so you know, though, financial aid awards always assume the student will be contributing something through work. They will have a formula that builds in a certain amount. My son's award, for example, expects him to earn $1800 towards his college costs this summer, and then work around 8 hours per week during the school term. It wouldn't matter if he put 0 down on the Profile, they still expect him to contribute some of his own earnings.

Often, if you can dig up some outside scholarships, the college will credit those amounts toward and loans you would otherwise be expected to take out, or towards the contribution expected from you through working.

If I could find the person that invented the CSS Profile and shoot them in the face, I would. This thing is so stupid, and so pointless, that it is to the point of idiocy.
