CSSSA - How competitive, intensive and fun is it?

I just heard about this program. D is a Rising 9th grader in-state Ceramic Sculptor. It looks pretty good. How competitive is it to get in. Is it as good as other programs that accepts only 11th grader+? Is it fun?

How can I get a sense of admit-able quality work for Visual Art program?

Thanks.

I wasn’t in the Visual Art program, but CSSSA was a great experience for me (I was in the Creative Writing department). My friends in Visual Art also had an amazing time. CSSSA is a great place to make friends and learn more about all forms of the arts, as every department has exhibits/performances that anyone can attend. Getting in is fairly competitive, but from what I’ve seen, Visual Art is not as competitive as other departments – especially Animation. My teachers at CSSSA told me that – and I think this is true for every department – they did not select students only based on skill; much of their decision relied on whether they thought the student had the potential to improve there.

As for CSSSA’s quality as compared to 11th grade+ programs, it depends on what programs you are comparing it to. The most competitive programs will likely be better in general; regardless, I think that CSSSA is a great place for artistic and social growth. Good luck!

Thank you @jiesica for your help! There isn’t any more competitive program that accepts current 9th grader though, is there?

@SculptorDad I’m not sure, sorry. :frowning: I’m not very familiar with programs for artists/sculptors, so as far as I know, there are not. I hope you can find one, though!
