CSU A-G Requirements

So I took several courses at my local CC over high school, and I received A’s in all of them except Calculus (I got a C). Now on the CSU app, it says to match your courses with A-G lettering in order to get credit for them and have it factored into your GPA. However, do I have to actually match all my college courses, or can I JUST match the one I used to satisfy my A-G requirements (which is World Music for my fine arts credit)? I don’t want the C from Calc to get factored into my GPA if it can be avoided because it brings it down significantly :frowning: I know it would seem suspicious to match all the college courses except that one Calc class, so instead, I would leave the other college courses without a letter next to them too, and only put the letter F next to my music course because technically, it is the only course I took at CC to satisfy an A-G credit. The other courses were not taken to satisfy high school credit requirements. This way, while the A’s I got from my other CC courses (except World Music) wouldn’t be factored into my GPA, neither would the C. Can I do this? The difference between the GPA would be like 0.2 points which is a lot.

You have to include all courses, HS snd College courses that meet the a-g courses on your application including Calculus. You do not get to pick and choose which classes get reported.
Once accepted, you will be expected to submit your college and HS transcripts which have to match your application or face being rescinded. There is a College transcript Clearing House that will have a record so no point in omitting the class.

Oh no I know I have to report all courses, I just wouldn’t insert a letter to match them all. So I would report that I got a C in Calc, but I wouldn’t actually “match” it (i.e. add the letter for mathematics next to it) because I didn’t take it to satisfy any A-G requirements, and therefore it wouldn’t get factored into the GPA. So basically I’m not trying to avoid reporting the class, I’m just trying to avoid having it get officially matched and factored into my GPA since it wasn’t taken to satisfy A-G requirements. @Gumbymom

You have to report the course and the grade received. Colleges will ask for the college transcript which will show the grade. Your application and transcripts have to match or you could lose your acceptance. It is still an a-g course regardless. Much better to risk a slightly lower GPA than losing any or all acceptances due to the omission.

I am reporting the course AND the grade received on my application. The only thing I don’t want to do is put in a matching letter on the CSU A-G matching section, where you basically put your courses into specific categories (so like I would match a Biology course I took at CC with the letter “D1” and therefore match it into the A-G biological science category and it would be factored into my GPA). What I am trying to do here is avoid matching it in this way so that while the C shows up on my transcript and everything, it doesn’t get actually factored into my GPA because it wasn’t taken to satisfy an A-G requirement and wasn’t matched into a category. I hope that explains it better but yeah I’m reporting the course and the grade received I’m just trying to avoid ‘matching’ it which means factoring it into the GPA of high school A-G courses. Sorry if it’s confusing. I’ll probably call the CSU office tomorrow to see what they say @Gumbymom

The CSU’s will see a Calculus class and put it under the right category when reviewing the application There is no way to keep it out of your CSU GPA calculation. Again you cannot pick and choose what grades are part of your GPA. Calling the CSU’s would be the best option.

@ddeebaa Same question here. How did they respond?
@Gumbymom i heard that CSU is automated when reviewing apps. Is this true?
