CSU and the CLEP Test

Hi all,

Just wanted to see if someone has experience with applying as a transfer to the CSU system while having a CLEP test included in their AA degree.

My AA is from an out of state school (CC of RI, graduated 2015, GPA of 3.62). I am a non-trad student and luckily passed all my classes on the first attempt. My old state/CC has a requirement that a student has to take a second language to earn an AA, and because I speak German, I took the CLEP test for German. I earned the full score and 12 credits.

During my CSU application process the system told me that I do not have the required minimum of 60 transferable credits to qualify as an upper division student, but when I look on my official transcript from my old CC it says I have 62 credits (50 on-campus credits + 12 CLEP credits). Does anyone have experience with this?

I am praying that this is just one of those technical things that will require an actual human to look over my application. I’d be pretty bummed if they disqualify me because I opted to save a bit of time and money by utilizing something as well-regarded as the CLEP test which is obviously offered to students and encouraged by faculty…

Hope everyone has a great week!

Thank you so much for the link. I did peek at it previously and I believe my CLEP score was 80 (or whatever the max was - I can’t remember). I was just super confused after filling out my application on CalStateApply and getting the dreaded “FYI you don’t have 60 or more credits to be considered an Upper Division Transfer. Proceed anyway?” I did in fact proceed anyway but now I’m getting nervous. Haha! Hopefully just a technical formality since the CLEP is entered in a different section of the application, away from your college classes… Thanks so much for your reply!
