CSU and UC Admissions: Does Graphic Design count as visual arts?

What the title says...

I know Art and Photography meet UC's and CSU's visual/performing arts requirement. I only have been able to take Graphic Design I and II but does this class meet that requirement?

If you are in a California high school, look it up at http://doorways.ucop.edu to see which courses qualify.

If you are in a non-California high school, try to find California high schools with similar courses in those listings.

So i found a high school on the california database with “Graphic Design 1” so i should be good? The general examples on the a-g requirements doesnt like graphic design but its also not in the “not accepted” listing

Doesn’t list*

Anymore definitive answers?

Perhaps you can ask the admissions office of the campuses of interest to find out if it counts?

I called SDSU, CSU Fullerton, UC Irvine, UC Davis, Cal Poly SLO and UCSD.

SDSU firmly said it DOES count.

The FIRST call to UC Irvine got an unexplained yes

UC Davis and Cal Poly SLO said no.

UCSD was very helpful but wasn’t sure but my counselor, Barbara, reassured me that missing the visual art credit won’t “make or break my chances”

A second call to UC Irvine finally got me a no.

Fullerton then said yes saying alot of applicants use graphic design on their transcripts.

So it looks more and more like:

No for UC schools
Yea for Cal State schools

SFSU, Sac State, SJSU and Cal Poly Pomona weren’t available to talk to…
