CSU App.

Hey guys, I finished my CSU application a couple days ago. I am transferring from a CCC with a 3.3 GPA. I really should have a good shot at the four CSUs I am applying to (SF, Sonoma, Fresno, LB). My Question is regarding the application: it only asks for planned/in progress courses, along with your current GPA and four classes in key areas. Do they really not care what my grades where in other classes I've completed, or am I missing something? I realize they will ask for my final transcripts later, but this still seems odd. Thanks!

That is all they want. The CSUs use a fairly simple ranking process for admissions. You are first put in buckets depending on locality. 1st bucket is “local” (where you took the majority of your CCC credits). 2nd bucket is non-local but California resident. 3rd bucket is OOS students. They tend to take exclusively from bucket one before moving to the next, etc.

Within each bucket the students are ranked by self-reported GPAs (which get verified later in the process–students are told various times if the self-reported GPA doesn’t match actual GPA they can/will have their offer revoked).

Basically, they ask for transcripts later because they don’t want to drown in tens of thousands of transcripts when they may only offer admissions to a fraction of that number. It saves on a lot of manpower to go on self-reported GPA in the initial stages.
