CSU Bakersfield

hi guys i want to ask you what do you know about CSU Bakersfield ?
if anyone have attend it

My nephews went there and honestly didn’t like it. However, one nephew - a June graduate - just landed an awesome job through one of his professors. So if you go there, make sure to shine, and the profs will notice you. Businesses do contact them, asking for strong graduates to hire.

can i know why they haven’t like it ? i mean academic or because of the bad weather ?

They didn’t like many of their professors. And sounds like there really were some that weren’t great. Both say they would have chosen a different school if they had it do do over again.

But again I need to reiterate, the nephew who just graduated has landed an amazing job. He’s making as much as my husband, straight out of college!!! Granted, this means he stays in the Bakersfield area. But it’s worth it to him. Employers can and do go to the CSUB to find the best and brightest in that area to hire.

So sometimes it’s better to be a big fish in a small pond. People can bloom where they are planted. If Bakersfield is your only choice, go for it and make the best of it.

Another advantage of Bakersfield: it’s easier to get into the honors program and to get correlating scholarships.

Bakersfield is an agricultural town in Kern County that also happens to have oil derricks. Grapes, cattle, oil and some of the industries. The air pollution is intense because of the extreme heat, the toxins emitted from the crop herbicides, and the oil industry. It is just north of Los Angeles so the commute for truckers to get product to market is reasonable.

It gets extremely hot, windy and dry. My brother called me this week and mentioned that it was 110 degrees and this is common for Bakersfield.
It is, however, a family town and lots of activities that involve the town.

CSUB has a number of hometown students and it’s not known for being extremely competitive, but they do have some programs that excel.

I know it’s so hot i’m thinking to attend it to take my pre request for dental school

It’s one of the more inexpensive schools, and you will be able to save more money than if you go somewhere else. Yes it’s hot but the classrooms are all air-conditioned. You sound like you’re thinking things through.

Good luck with your decision.

ETA: my other nephew - the one not quite graduated - just landed a great internship.
