CSU>CSU or Community College > CSU

Hello! I have already completed my IGETC Plan C and I am enrolled in CSUEB. I am moving down to SLO and I am wondering what my best bet is to get into Cal Poly SLO. I have a low GPA, and am working on raising it.

Should I continue with CSUEB& apply next fall or should I go to Cuesta College ( in SLO) get my AA to raise my GPA and then transfer?

All advice is appreciated!

CSU transfers are highly dependent upon being local especially for SLO, so I would consider going to Cuesta, bumping up your GPA and getting your ADT.

a couple of things to note about SLO before heading too far down this path.

First, they accept very few transfer applicants - last year, just 1615, of 11148 making their admit rate less than 15%. You will need a high GPA to be competitive - here are last years #s for your reference

Second, they define ‘local’ differently than the rest of the CSUs. (note they use home domicile rather than where the CC you attend.

i didn’t spend a ton of time on it but, that isn’t as clearly defined as it used to be. As I recall, they used to define that by where you graduated high school - but that could no longer be true. You should contact their admissions office to see if moving now will give you a bump.

It sounds like you are a Jr and already enrolled at EB, I presume your current ‘low’ GPA is sub 3. Honestly, unless there are a couple of coursed you can retake to bump your GPA, there’s not much you can do that will make you an attractive transfer for SLO. Presuming I’ve got your situation correct, I’d encourage you to stick to CSUEB, focus on boosting your GPA and you can probably get your BS/BA in 18 months - then relocate if you want.

good luck
