CSU->CSU/UC Transfer

I'm currently a student at San Francisco State University and I really want to attend another CSU or UC school like SDSU, UCSB, UCSC, and I'm also looking at private schools. This school was my safety school and I've realized over the course of my senior year I'm starting to dislike it a lot.

CC's are not an option for me for personal reasons.

Second Semester Freshman
GPA: 3.6

I'm hoping to transfer my junior year.
Are there any chances of me getting into those schools?

You have a better chance to transfer to private unviersity

There are chances, but they would be higher at a CC and in fact you could have a guarantee of admission via TAG at some of them. Some students in a situation like yours would move their sophomore year to attend a CC in the vicinity of the 4-year they want to attend, allowing them to take part in the campus life starting right away.

If CC is not an option then you’ll have to take your chances from SFSU; if the CA budget continues to struggle (for example if Brown’s tax measure loses this fall) then you should also be aware that the CA publics have considered not allowing ANY xfers except from CC’s. For example this recent article in the paper at Cal

I was in the same position as you last year. I’m a sophomore at a CSU and I really thought I could do better. I had a lot of people telling me transferring from a CSU to a UC was basically impossible. Well I applied for the fall semester of 2012 and got into Davis, Santa Cruz, and Santa Barbara (so far)…so its definitely possible. Of course you will be at a disadvantage compared to CC students but as long as you have a good GPA, a decent amount of ECs, and a killer essay, you are bound to get in somewhere.
Some advice,
-Make sure you do your research on UC GE and major requirements. Take the most basic GE classes you can so they are easily transferable. The hardest part of the transfer process is the fact that assist.org doesn’t help you much.
I haven’t chosen a school or talked to any counselors yet, but from what I’ve heard, its a mess trying to figure out which classes count toward your major or GE. But that comes later, the first step is getting in! Don’t let people discourage you. Your GPA is pretty solid. Just keep working hard, and your hard work will pay off. :)

@nooparz Really? What was your gpa? I was also thinking about applying to a private school as well. University of San Diego and Point Loma

My GPA was a 3.8. I just got accepted to UCSD aswell. :slight_smile: I haven’t applied to any privates but one of the main differences is that they require SAT scores. Feel free to message me if you have any more questions.

There’s nothing wrong with CSU’s I’m a student at UCSC and I hate it and I’m trying to actually transfer to Chico or Sac State for severely reasons! Find what makes you happy and go for it! My friend got into UCSC from CSU San Marcos for next year so it’s deff possible! for private schools you should also look into Santa Clara, St.Marys of CA, and LMU

I highly recommend avoiding CSU’s for the next up coming year–the entire CSU system is going down the drain and getting hit really hard from the budget cuts.
