Could u give me some advises?

Hi, I got into CSULB for Civil Engineering and I’m on the waitlist for Civil Engineering at UCD. I was wondering if you could please post your stats?

I’ve never been to CSULB, but I’ve been to UCD and I love it there. I really like the campus! It’s pretty flat so there are a LOT of bikers. There is a diverse pool of people and most of them are really friendly and energetic. The food at the Dinning Common is good! I was actually stunned by the amount of food, haha. It’s similar to a buffet and you can take an item with you when you’re done. You can walk to restaurants, cafes, and small shops in about 5-12ish minutes. The dorms by the Dinning Common are kinda small. You share the bathroom and shower stalls with everyone on your floor. The dorms there goes in a boy girl boy girl pattern. Umm… it can get pretty hot in the summer. I don’t know why but the last time I was there, they wouldn’t allow the AC to be turned on during the afternoon.

Anyways, I hope I somewhat sort of helped.
Good luck on your decision! :)

@Love4Arch, hey i just got into UCD and Cal Poly Pomona for Civil Engineering.
here are my stats:

3.5 (UC GPA)

1680 (SAT)
800 (SAT French)
590 (SAT Math II)
550 (SAT US Hist)

25 (ACT)

LOTS OF EC’s ( +1000 hours)
Captain of Varsity Tennis Team since Junior Year
Went to programs and internships related to CE.

Hope this helped you.

I have similar stats.
My gpa is 3.75 but my SAT is slightly lower, 1650.
580 SAT math ll.
520 SAT chem. <—I’m so bad at chem, I don’t even know why I took it.
I have a bunch of ECs too, but I don’t think it’s more than 1000 hours. Haha.

Wow, 800 in french? I took it and got around a 500. Fail :'(

Merci beaucoup!

Yeah I’m bad at chem too… Haha. Hmm I think you should appeal!

Hmm I don’t know, I think I have a better shot if I stay on the waitlist. I got into UCI, but it’s so far away. =/

LoveforArch: I’m in the same position as you! I got accepted to UCI and waitlisted at UCD.

UC GPA:4.05
SAT: 1930
SATII: 800, 740
lots of EC’s
internship, some jobs

I think it’s advisable though to not compare yourself to others by just the stats because the UC’s factor in so many other things like low income, first generation college student, poor performing school, ELC, special circumstances, etc. I’m from a really high-performing high school so these stats didn’t get me in It’s all about how well you perform relative to your peers.

I just thought it was funny because I don’t know if I would even want to go to Davis if I get accepted because it’s so far away lol. UCI is so much more convenient for me. I guess people usually want to stay relatively close to home :)

Pick Davis, it’s just better academically.

Hi lunallion!
For civil engineering too?
I don’t understand why you didn’t get in, your stats are great!
Yeah, some of these factors apply to me:
low income, first generation, poor performing school, and eop.
So you’re from socal? Have you been to UCI?

Yeah, Civil Engineering! haha that’s crazy I didn’t notice your major before. I’ve never been to UCI but I’ve heard it’s a really pretty campus. Actually, I’m doing their overnight stay program over spring break so I’ll post my impressions later :)

I was also doing some more research about the engineering program at UCD vs UCI and basically they’re really similar. UCD does have a better overall ranking though- #11 in best public universities vs. #14 for UCI. But I also read that UCI is much closer to big companies, and you can get handier internships. Here’s a quote from an earlier thread:

"Irvine for the fact its so close, to large engineering companies such as Boeing, intel, JPL and other ones. In engineering what your going to want is Internships, hands own practice. Davis is great for agriculture stuff since its close to farmlands.
Book stuff is alright, but for engineering experience is everything. "

I got into UCI civil engineering, but I really want is UCD, I am waitlisted
Look like a lot of you on the same situiation.wish we all have a happy ending
