Csu let me in!!!

I am a transfer student with a 2.6 gpa from a CC and was applying to SJSU and CSULB and was wondering is there any hope for acceptance? They both require a 2.0 min to apply since I'm a Cali resident but I'm hearing of people not getting in with a 3.2. I'm also a computer engineering major

Also applied to Fullerton as well but its not to good for computer engineering

SJSU impaction is described here:
[SJSU Admission](http://info.sjsu.edu/web-dbgen/narr/admission/rec-1197.html)

For fall 2011, transfer students needed the following GPAs for these majors:
[SJSU Admission](http://info.sjsu.edu/web-dbgen/narr/admission/rec-1211.html)
computer engineering 2.60
computer science 3.00
electrical engineering 2.60
software engineering 2.00

For spring 2012, transfer students needed:
[SJSU Admission](http://info.sjsu.edu/web-dbgen/narr/admission/rec-1210.html)
computer engineering 2.75
computer science 3.25
electrical engineering 3.25
software engineering 2.85

Other CSUs with computer engineering include:

Chico
Fresno
Northridge
Pomona
Sacramento
San Diego
San Luis Obispo

Northridge is listed as “not campus impacted” for transfer applicants on [CSU Campus Impaction Information | Student Academic Support | CSU](http://www.calstate.edu/SAS/impaction-campus-info.shtml)

Yea i know but thats the minimum so does that mean i barely have a chance of getting in and what about Long beach

Bump bunp bump

I have a 2.6 gpa, and I got rejected from Long Beach for the spring.

Because CSULB is an impacted school, and my major was impacted (psych), then their standards as far as GPA were WAY high. However, I got accepted to CSU Northridge on Friday.

When I spoke to the admissions office, they said if you are over a 2.0, have the required units (above 60) and have at least a C in the four basic classes (math, english ect.) then they must accept you if the campus is not impacted.

This goes for the rest of the CSU’s as well. HOWEVER. If the campus is impacted, like many of the CSU’s, then they will require a higher GPA. And if your major is impacted, is like a double whammy.

This has been confirmed by the spokesman from Northridge that I spoke too on the phone, and this:

http://saweb.csus.edu/students/download/Enrollment_Management_QnA.pdf</a></p>

Now, if the campus, such as CSULB, is impacted, then they will require a higher GPA, and their priority will be students in their service area first, THEN students outside the service area.

I’m sorry to say, that with a 2.6 gpa, I was not surprised at all to get rejected. What I recommend doing, is applying for Northridge, or another campus that is not impacted, and then once your in, raise your gpa a little, then try transfering to Long Beach if thats really where you want to go.

Well SJSU says that 2.60 is the threshold for computer engineering so im good for there right?

Forget about long beach. Save yourself transcript ordering money and anticipation.

May I ask why 2.6? Any problems at home or something?

You might be. I mean…you MIGHT have a shot. Because SFSU is impacted, they are gonna take local people with a lower GPA before they take people outside the area. I don’t know where you are in relation to there, but its still a long shot. Call their Admissions office and ask them questions. Thats what I did with Northridge. (The poor people, I must have harassed them like 6 times. They probably just admitted me so I would leave them alone! haha.)

Not SFSU but SJSU and its a 2.6 because well to be honest i was just really lazy

Ohhhh. SJSU. I looked at that wrong, my bad.

I have heard it can be easy to get into SJSU from some people, but harder from others. I guess it just depends.

Well how can i be the % that gets in easy

It is possible that a major is more popular this year than last, which would cause the threshold GPA to increase. If you apply for computer engineering at SJSU with a 2.6, you are basically hoping that the threshold is the same as or lower than last year.

The min transfer gpa that was accepted in fall 2011 for psychology was like a 3.4. you pretty much need at least a 3.7 to get in if you aren’t going to any of their feeder schools. And what’s worse, only less than 30% got in. CSULB is one of the most popular csu’s and has a lot of good majors so competition is fierce. You might want to get your grades up. To do anything in psychology you’re gonna have to go to graduate school, and to get into a decent school you need at least a 3.5 or better. Which also a 3.5 is required to stay in a graduate program at a csu

The admissions office told me that I am considered a non-local student because even though my family lived in San Jose and I went in Highschool there that since im taking my CC units in the OC then i am non local. Also should i be looking at the spring threshold or the fall admit threshold if im applying for fall 2012

If you are applying for a fall semester, it is likely that the previous fall will be a better approximation, but the thresholds may still change.

My parents also both went to SJSU if that helps but there was nothing on the application to fill that part out

ANything I can do?

Just wanted to let you all know I got into sjsu and fullerton with a 2.6 gpa in computer engineering and I am not living in San Jose
