So, I was told my my counselor that there is a local area preference with csu schools where if you went to high school or cc in a certain area, you get preference. I currently go to cerritos college and that gives me lap to Dominguez hills which sucks, so I was thinking of transferring all my credits to Fullerton cc so I could have a chance at csuf. I really wanted to go to csulb but they choose by high school and won’t accept my high school degree even though it was at a high school in their lap. My question is, if transfer all but a couple classes to Fullerton cc and finished those classes there, will csuf count me as in the lap?
My understanding is that to be in the local service area for CSU Fullerton, that the majority of your community college course units need to be taken at the CC’s within Fullerton’s service area. Since you need at least 60 semester units to transfer, you would need to take at least 31 units at Fullerton’s local CC’s.
If you get good grades and make sure to take courses on the CSU list for transfers, you have a good shot at being accepted at more than one CSU. My son is transferring from a CC to a UC, and he was accepted at all UCs to which he applied - not just the local one.
@calla1: UC’s do not give priority/preference to local applicants like Cal states other than in-state vs OOS The poster is asking about transferring to a Cal State, Fullerton to be exact which makes a distinction between local and non-local transfers.
@Gumbymom, thanks for the information. I wasn’t aware that CSUs were so specific.
