Ok, i know this isnt much of a "competition," but these 2 schools are basically what i have to choose from if i dont get into UC Irvine. Can anybody help me choose between these 2 schools? Im just wondering about things like housing, social life, places around the college, etc.

Personally, I don’t like CSULA…too many kids there just going to college because they have no idea of what they’re doing with their lives.

Monterey Bay is new, I would choose that. And, the area is nice.

And…many of MB’s classes are on the smaller size…a nice plus for a Calif public.

Since the enrollment is small, it’s more like a private school.

What is your major?

Monterey Bay, for the reasons mentioned above.

Im doing Information Technology. Thanks for the responses. If anyone else has any opinions or experiences I would appreciate it :)

Cal State LA will have better facilities, and in fact the average age of the students is closer to 30 so it’s semi “collegiate” - lot’s of professionals going back to get MA’s etc. The bureacracy is insane there as well. CSUMB is much smaller and the cost of living might be higher if that is a factor. It really depends on where you want to live. CSULA is in a pretty central location just east of the downtown area and you would have access to all LA has to offer. I would really go with where you see yourself living. Personally, I wouldn’t pass on living in Monterey away from the hustle and bustle of LA but some folks LIVE for that.

CSU Monterey Bay, my understanding lots of there space is previously Fort Ord. It’s a very small school. It’s sort of known for teaching from what I understand. The area is very nice but pricey due to it being touristy. It’s quite a distance away from San Jose and San Francisco the two major cities. I would definitely plan a visit before making that decision.

CSULA no idea, never been there unfortunately. But the reasoning behind size having more to offer should be taken into consideration.

@fliqer thank you for your input

@santookie unfortunately theres only a few days left to me to make my decision, so i cant really visit. if i knew of a decision from irvine a lot sooner this could have been possible :/

anyone have any idea about the social life at both schools? im going to these schools to get a degree obviously, but i would like to have some fun too while im young

CSULA has tried to make more a dorm life for students but is overwhelmingly still a commuter school so your social life will be more about the friends you make there and what you do OFF campus in the city. However, being a city like LA you will ALWAYS be able to find something to do. Whereas, there is more of a built in dorm life at CSUMB and a strip in town where students congregate. That would be better in terms of being tight knit but MIGHT get old after a couple of years there UNLESS you’re the outdoorsy (biking-hiking etc) type then you will always find a niche.

since i only have 2 days left, does anyone else have any additional input? i just am trying to get the most opinions/experiences that i can

where did you end up going?
