Okay, so I’m extremely late here but I’ve been giving some thought about transferring out of my school. I currently go to California State University, Monterey Bay. It’s small, great location, and I love the classes. Unfortunately the retention rate isn’t so hot, social scene is nonexistent, and the school is building like 3 or 4 buildings to be completed the year after I’m supposed to graduate. I’m afraid that the small classes and close knit feel here is rapidly going away as the school’s trying to double its size within the next ten years. I’m currently a second year majoring in Environmental Science with 61 units and will have 78 completed at the end of this semester. My GPA is a 3.49 and I’ve only taken pre-reqs (up to calc 2, chem 2) and GEs.
Does anyone have any advice on my situation? Not even sure if I’m eligible to transfer.
I have been interested in Cal Poly because of their environmental programs, but I’m not sure if I could get into a program or if I would be setting my graduation date farther back. I’m open to other schools, but which Nov 30th rapidly approaching I don’t think I can apply to any UC’s or privates because of the essays.
Below is a link for SLO’s transfer requirements for Environmental Science. If you have these completed by Spring 2017, then you stand a decent chance for transfer.
Acceptance rate is greater than 50% so definitely apply. With transferring there is always a chance it may set you back on graduating on time so you ned to figure out if this will be acceptable.

You should apply but, understand, CP SLO doesn’t accept many transfer applicants - the vast majority of transfers come from their ‘local’ CC. Take a look at the the link and, you’ll see that none of the colleges listed has more than 30% acceptance rate. They may take you but, don’t count on it. Long Beach, Pomona, Humboldt and Sonoma also have solid programs and are worth an ap.
Good luck
