CSU TO BERKELEY TRANSFER

Hi Everyone!

I am looking to transfer from Cal State Northridge to UC Berkeley! I am a Computer Science major. I have done all the PREP requirements and have in fact exceeded them. I am taking classes in math and computer science that are way past the requirements needed to transfer! I will have a 3.8 GPA upon transfer and applying. It is my second year at Cal State Northridge currently. In terms of Extra Curriculars, I have my own company and I am the C.T.O. I am using my computer science background and incorporating that into my business.

I would love to get everyone’s opinions on how I look based off of this information alone. Also, I would love all the tips I can get to enhance my application to further increase my chances of getting in! I would also especially like tips on how to approach the Essays and personal insight questions.

Thank you and feel free to ask questions I am an open book!

UCB accepted 51 CS transfers last year - about a 5% admit rate. You look like a well qualified aplicant and have some interesting experience that may set you apart. Honestly, it a long shot for all CS transfer applicants.

With the way you are going, you are going to be successful no matter what name is on your diploma - as long as you continue to make the most of what’s in front of you.

Good luck

Agreed and it is a long uphill climb for any majors to transfer from a CSU to a UC, especially UCB or UCLA. To transfer to a UC the priorities are: CC>UC>CSU. CSU transfer applicants have the lowest priority of the 3. A competitive major such as CS makes it even more difficult. I know of someone this past year with a 3.7+ GPA in engineering from SJSU applied to UCD as a junior. The person was rejected. Even UC to UC is difficult. Another person with a 3.7+ GPA in CS from UCSC applied this past year as a junior to UCD, UCB and USC (private college) and was rejected by all 3. Apply anyway, hope for the best and you’ll never know. As already mentioned, CS majors are in high demand and you’ll probably have multiple job offers and should do well. Good luck!

Note that the 25th percentile admit prior college GPA for UCB L&S CS transfers was 3.76 (5% admit rate), and it was 3.92 (9% admit rate) for UCB EECS transfers.
