CSU to CC and then to UC transfer

I am currently a first year in SDSU, and I want to transfer out into a UC like Berkeley, or Davis. The way I plan on doing this is by transferring into a CC next year, and then transfer again into the UC I want. I alright know this can be done because I called the schools, and they said that it may even be easier than transferring straight from SDSU.

What I want is a third opinion on this, I still am not sure if I should stay another year then transfer, or If I should transfer right away after this year.

I am in the same position as you.

I am in my first year in CSU Chico. Currently Spring Semester 2012.

I wanna go to UC Santa Barbara.

I am planning on leaving CSU Chico after this year, and enroll in my local CC, aka SMC, and gonna stay there for 2 years then transfer with my units to UCSB.

Reason I can’t transfer within 1 year is because I only have 12 units from CSU Chico, and I need 30+ units to apply for TAG as a transfer student…

My advice for you is go for it buddy.

CSUs are getting crowded and its almost not worth it.

I see, that makes sense. Thank you so much for your opinion. I suppose there really isnt anything wrong with doing this. I was scared that I may be doing something really dumb, I looked at other College Confidential threads related to CSU to UC transfers, all they said that it was a bad idea and never gave any reasoning to it.

Btw, make sure you don’t take too many units at SDSU.

If u have more credits in SDSU than ur local CC then you’ll be considered a CSU transfer student.

Not a CC transfer student.

K?

Good luck to both of us!

oh jeez I didnt know about that, thank you so much for tell me. Does that include the units you got from highschool? or does that not matter? I have a total for 30 units from this and last semester so I think that if i take summer sschool in my CC and then have atleast 15 units each semester i should be fine.

the campus by campus rules are on page 14 of http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/counselors/files/ETS10_TransferQA_final.pdf</a></p>

If you fit under the unit cap then you can even do the TAG program at Davis, which will guarantee your admission.

Great, Thank goodness for that. Will transferring from a CSU to a CC and then to a UC look bad for grad school or any other schooling I may need to apply to after college?

Not really. You’ll do the upper division classes at UC and those are the ones that matter much more than lower division intro and breadth classes

Hey I talked to my counselor and asked her if I could go to SDSU for the first year, then community college the 2nd year to transfer to UCSB as a junior and she said that most UC"s would look at CC transfers as 2 year community college students.

I’m worried about that…

Worried about what?

Hey I am about to be in the situation as you sometime in the future. I’m about to attend SDSU this fall, but I’ve been wanting to go to a UC in the first place. So I was thinking also of transferring to a ccc my 2nd year, then transfer to a UC 3rd year. Tell me or update this post on how everything goes for you, and probably share any advice and experiences pf how things went I wish you good luck!
