I was admitted into the CSUF Business Program but unfortunately after my first semester I decided I would rather study History instead. Now CSUs and UC's are both great in there own ways but I know UC's are better known for their History programs whereas Fullerton is known for business. I am currently in my second semester at Fullerton and am thinking of going to a local CC and potentially transferring out of there to a UC, but i do not want to have to spend more than a year at CC before transferring. I know my chances are very very slim out of a CSU but CC boosts that chance immensely, but then there is the problem of transferring units. Is there a way i can find what units will transfer before making this decision? thanks in advance.

What do you want to do with a History degree? You have a list of options. If you want to do teaching, I would say stick it out at CSUF. If your heart is desired in research, however, the UC’s may be for you.

My daughter was somewhat is the same positing…SFSU (1 semester) to SBCC to UCSB hopefully (TAG). Since there are no articulation agreements between CSU’s and UC’s it was difficult for her to determine what classes would actually transfer. She still, does not know if she is OK TAG-wise but the counselors at SBCC have reassured her that all looks OK.

I would go talk to a counselor at the CC you are interested and and show them your transcripts and see if those classes are “similar” to a CC class, and then see if that CC class is approved for the UC you wish to attend vis assist.org.

You need to watch for a few things, for instance my D had some issues with a Philosophy class that should have counted for a IGETC requirement but the CC would not accept it because a pre-req was not completed before she took the class…but then they said that the UC would accept probably accept it for credit.

Just make sure if you transfer out of a 4 year college to a CC you are going to dedicated to keeping your GPA because if you don’t you may no be able to re-enroll whee you left…and not get in elsewhere!!
