I have been exploring the option of transfering from SF State to a UC (Davis, Santa Cruz, San Diego, Berkley, and Irvine). I have also considered transfering to Oregon or Cal Poly. I want to know if it is possible to transfer from a CSU to a UC, as I have heard most units are not transferable.

After two semesters I have a 3.6 GPA and 38 Units. I also got a 1980 on my SAT's.

Any help/suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Yes, im wondering if transferring from a CSU to a UC in general is possible too. Can anyone help?

Check www.assist.org for transferable courses

if you really want to transfer to a UC it would probably be best to take your 2nd year at a CCC to save money and increase your transfer chances. maybe someone else can chime in because i'm not too sure about csu > uc but i do know it's possible

As for if it is possible, the answer is yes. I transferred from CSU Chico to UC Berkeley, so it is possible. As for what units transfer and what do not, that is tricky. One way to go about it is to see what community college classes transfer to uc, and see if any of your csu classes are equivalent to those community college classes.

I transferred from Cal State Northridge to UC Berkeley. CSU Northridge did not have a chemical engineering program. All of my classes transferred for credit (engineering major at Northridge). I taylored my essay to emphasize why I wanted to transfer. I had a 3.7 GPA. I also applied to UCI, UCLA and UCSD. I was accepted to UCI as well as Berkeley and rejected by UCLA and UCSD.

It definitely can be done, but I believe it's very dependent on what major you choose.

I also transferred from SF State to UC Berkeley and I was thrill with it during the application process because I really wanted to get out of there.
However, in retrospect, I would not have picked this path because if I failed I would have to graduate from SFSU and let this notorious school name stained in my transcript permanently.
I urge you to quit SF State and retreat to a community college as soon as possible. SF state puts you in the lowest priority of transfer, after CCC and UC. You have a really really slim chance of transfer. Especially 3.6 is not a high GPA compare to those GPA powertanks in CCC
The second reason is you might not get into all the prerequisite classes that you want in your application process and it will halt your application. SF state suck. It was a horrible and abhorrent school. The school over-admitted so many students that you can't imagine. It's a semester school and most of the classes are only offered in either fall or spring. That means, if you don't get into a core class, you'll have to wait for another year. Registration was fierce and atrocious. For example, There were only around 40 spots in Ochem lab each semester. However, around two hundreds of people are trying to get into the lab. Most people had stayed for the 5th or 6th year not because they were stupid, but because they couldn't get into the class they wanted. Even a community college won't let this happen. So, SF state's education is far worse than a community college. I doubt their enthusiasm in education. They care nothing about students, very poor advising and collaboration. They just want student's $ disregarding the fact that they don't have enough resources for that large population of students.
Thridly, you pay less at a ccc and get better education. Why not?
Finally, you can always go back to SFState if you fail to transfer to a UC. SFState is basically a prostitute. If you pay, you're in. I've seen somebody from ccc with 1.X GPA who continues his education at SFState.
Trust me, leaving this school asap. Go to a community college and get a uc guarantee transfer.
