Hey guys I have a question. I screwed around a lot when I started college, but i’m changing my ways. I have a 2.4 gpa roughly with 60 something units Mechanical Engineering major, and have a few questions.

Can in transfer into a UC school during the spring quarter?

If not, I’m planning on going back to a community college then transfering to a UC. I don’t think i can do the TAG program because i have over 60 units already, or can i ? Do extra curricular activities help for transfer students? what are the chances of getting into UC LA/Berk/Irvine/Davis with this gpa? I know i meet minimum requirements for UCI

If i do get into those schools, is it possible to redeem my grades and get into grad school?

If i do get in, would I be able to get scholarships based on my quarter gpas? or is it based on overal gpa?

Will students be able to get loans for tuition and housing (off campus) next year or will it be difficult with the economy recessing??

1) you can find out that info by looking at the admission sites for the UC schools you are interested in.

2) you may be able to do the TAG program; you need to talk to the xfer counselor at the CC you're considering to find out how the rules apply to your situation. Overall, I'd say your xfer chances directly from the CSU are very low.

3) UC's don't have merit scholarships; you get financial aid based on need.

If i have over 60 units then I can't really take anymore CC courses because they won't be transfered as credit. Think I can transfer to UC Davis/irvine with a 2.4 gpa? I meet minimum requirements, but not the TAG program

1) If you are talking about Winter/Spring 2009 enrollment, only UCR is accepting applications, but not in the school of Engineering - only Natural Sciences and Ag University of California - Admissions

2) How did you get over 60 units? According to your previous posts, you were a senior in high school last year. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/408499-chances-uc-irvine-davis.html and should be in your first semester of college right now. Are you including AP credit? It is treated differently than college credit.

Another 2) Why not continue your Mechanical Engineering major at the CSU you say you are currently enrolled in? You would likely have more success at "redeeming your grades" at the CSU than the UC. Many CSU graduates go on to grad school - you might make your goal to attend a UC as a graduate student.

3) I know of no scholarships that would be based on a single quarter of grades rather than your entire academic record. UC merit scholarships would require a higher GPA. As another post-er said, need-based financial aid might be a possibility.

4) For students who are determined to have need based on submitting the FAFSA, Stafford and and Perkins loans will still be available. Additional private loans will likely be a bit more difficult to obtain without a cosigner, but are still available.

lol. oh fyi, i'm using my girlfriend's college discussion account. =]

I heard that it is VERY difficult to transfer to a UC from a CSU.

It maynot be true because someone posted

ive called the UC admissions office twice to clarify this and they state that if you are a california resident, you will get put in to the same pool as the california community college students.

and I found this

We give highest priority to students who are transferring from
California community colleges <../adm_tr.htm> or other University of
California campuses.
