I'm a current student at SDSU and I used to frequent this site inactively, hoping that I'd stumble upon threads concerning CSU to UC transfers... But there's a huge lack in threads revolving around that specific scenario. Is it really that uncommon? I myself am hoping to transfer to UCSD as it's been a goal of mine since high school. I know it's been done before, but the general notion I gather from this website is:

CSU gets last priority
CSU transfers should not even try since CCC's get first priority (lol never explicitly stated, but I get that feeling sometimes. I understand it's statistically backed, but c'mon..)

Any successful CSU to UC transfers lurking around these parts? I know there's probably only a relatively small portion of you out there, given that a majority are from a CCC, but making yourself and your story known to people like me would serve as a little slice of hope before sending out the transfer app. (If not, this thread can die along with my hope. lul.)

at least 80% of transfers to UCs are CC. With that said only UCI, UCLA, UCB and UCM will read personal statements for transfer. If your GPA is good, you should be able to transfer from SDSU to UCSD.

@bomerr Thanks for keeping it realistic, but also slightly optimistic. I love pragmatic advice. With praises aside, I’ve heard that about the personal statements which is why I’ve chosen the first three you listed as the other of the four UC’s my fee waivers have allowed me to apply to.

Not expecting anything at all; just sending out a set of what I believe to be decent personal statements and hoping for the best.

@mikemac Good idea! Thank you. I’ve already talked via telephone with an admissions counselor and have gained some insight on how I should approach this, but I believe a face-to-face appointment might benefit me a little more.

To anyone reading this, It doesn’t matter where you are transferring from, if you are the right fit for the school they will accept you
I recently applied to UC Berkeley,LA,Irvine,SB,SD from CSU Fullerton
I had a 3.81 GPA, but all of the classes I took were strategically picked out.
Everyone I knew told me I had no chances of getting into any of the UC’s considering the priorities go to community college applicants, but I believed in myself and I still applied.
I was accepted into:
Berkeley-Electrical Engineering and Computer Science(EECS) joint with nuclear engineering (Full Scholarship)
Irvine- Aerospace Engineering (70% Full Scholarship)
Santa Barbara- Electrical Engineering( honors program) (Full Scholarship)
Los Angeles- (waitlist) ( EECS)
rejected from San Diego (Nano-Engineering)
As of now, I am almost sure that I want to go to UC Berkeley. (waiting on private schools)

IF you believe that you are a strong candidate that is well accomplished and wants to transfer to a UC from a CSU, then by all means apply and hopefully you will get in. I hope my recent accomplishments will motivate you and excite you to want to apply and get yourself to a better place.

@fadifrancis Wow! Congrats on all of your acceptances.

As for an update on myself, I’m from SDSU with a 3.85 overall GPA. I applied to UCSD, UCI, UCLA, and UC Berkeley. I got into:

UCSD - Molecular Biology
UCLA - MIMG

And rejected from UCI and UC Berkeley.

So to piggyback off of what Francis posted, it definitely is possible. Don’t let the statistics scare you; simply put some thought into your application and let it speak for itself. You will end up where you need to be if you put in the effort.

@May6 i want to transfer too from csu to uc can you give me more information ?
how you could transfer i am still a freshman and my major is biochemistry ?!!

Hello, I have a few questions, for the CSU to UC transfer I know I need to follow the seven course pattern but I’m having trouble determining what classes would satisfy the course pattern.
